CY YOUNG CHALLENGE
Was Cy Young the greatest pitcher of all-time? Maybe. But even if he wasn't, he's the only one with a major award named after him. So, yeah, he was pretty good.
Great pitching is often the difference between a win and a loss. And, having the best all-around starting pitcher in your rotation might be enough to earn your team the title. So who will be the best pitcher at the end of the regular season? Stay tuned to find out.
HOW IT WORKS
Using the MLB rankings in five pitching categories - IP, W, K, QS, and ERA - players in the top 20 will receive points depending where they rank: 20 pts for #1, down to 1 point for the #20 player. The higher a player ranks in each category, the more points they receive. To be clear, they receive points for their ranking in each category, not for their statistical totals in each category.
For example, last season, Sandy Alcantara finished #1 in IP and received 20 points. He also finished #15 in W and #8 in K and received 19 points for those rankings. When you add up all of his final rankings across each of the five categories, he finished 2022 with 72 points and would've won the Cy Young contest.
Lastly, the ERA ranking is based on MLBs minimum requirement for IP.
