A Few Words

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

I'm gonna come right out and tell you all that if you're looking for a long-read this week - and I know you are - you're going to be disappointed. I need to keep this week's post rather short because I'm heading out of town.

In last week's post, I mentioned there were some teams that I thought would be able to surprise us all and avenge their week 1 loss. Well, with the 3 teams that I mentioned, it happened.

The least surprising of the bunch was the Tallahassee Tator Tots. They're certainly a much better team than they showed us in week 1 and, honestly, you're a bit of a fool if you didn't take them to beat the Springfield Isotopes last week.

Credit to the 'Topes though. They battled hard and it was a much closer contest that I thought it might be. In fact, they entered the 7th inning with a small lead over the Tots and were it not for Logan Gilbert tossing BP to the Angels hitters on Sunday, the 'Topes probably would've won.

Another team I thought stood a decent chance of winning was the Damn Yankees. However, I'll admit that I did not foresee them posting the second-best weekly score in the league this season with 380 points. I think they took my comment about them not being a powerhouse personally. Damn Yankees? More like Daaaayum, Yankees?!

Corbin Burnes (41 pts) had his best outing of the season delivering 8 K and 0 ER over 8.0 IP.

I know you all thought I was crazy when I suggested the Poke Bananas could beat the Myrtle Beach Mermen and I don't blame you. The fact the Bananas found themselves losing to the Mermen, 61-7, after two innings probably furthered your confidence that my suggestion was wrong.

Well, suck it.

The Bananas registered one of the best comebacks of the season, outscoring the Mermen 128-60 over the final two frames to pull off a 4-run upset. The Matchup Day 1 curse is real.

Beyond those 3 contests, last week's results were rather predictable. Los Perros Locos took care of a struggling Prepas team and You're Killing Me Smalls remain near the top of the Cactus division after defeating Team Whitmer. And, finally, the most predictable outcome of all: Akes and Pain dismembered the Green Monstahs.

"Let's have it, Commish. What are your big predictions for this week?"

Two things: 1) I don't have the time to do the proper research and, 2) I know when to collect my winnings and walk away.

Best of luck in week 11!

POWER RANKINGS

At the top of the rankings, Los Perros Locos and Akes and Pain swapped positions while the Tallahassee Tator Tots still cling to a very small lead. The Damn Yankees saw the greatest gain this week as they jumped 4 spots from #10 to #6.

ALL-STAR LINEUP CHALLENGE

There's a new leader in town. Akes and Pain moved up 2 spots, from #3, to take the #1 spot away from Myrtle Beach Mermen. Also in the mix are the Los Perros Locos and Tallahassee Tator Tots who are hopeful their players hit their stride as we begin the back half of the season.

BATTING CHAMPION & CY YOUNG CHALLENGES

No update to either contest this week. But, if you click the buttons below, you'll be able to see the same thing you saw last week!
