We're counting down the days as the start of the 2022 season draws near. To this point, you've read every blog article and player analysis out there and your draft strategy is foolproof, right? Damned be the fool who thinks they're going to steal Harrison Butker for less than $8.
Armed with a 3-ring binder of player notes and six 5-Hour Energy drinks, you're ready to get this show on the road. Or, are you?
I bet that if I called any of you right now and asked when your draft is, at least half of you wouldn't be able to tell me the exact time and day. And I'm certain that a few of you in the Sagebrush Cactus League have no idea when you're supposed to declare your keepers. That is why I'm posting the info one more time.
Sagebrush Cactus Keepers Lock: Monday, August 29th at 9:00 PM PST
Sagebrush Cactus Draft: Thursday, September 1st at 6:30 PM PST
SCL Segundo Draft: Tuesday, August 30th at 7:00 PM PST
And now that you know you're going to have to come up with a reason to miss your daughter's dance recital so you can make the draft, let's go over a few other things.
Be there and be ready. If you're draft is at 7:00 and you're just getting out of the shower at 6:58, you're likely to miss some early opportunities. The draft will move quickly for the first 30 minutes or so; be sure you're online and ready before it starts.
Use a reliable computer with a stable internet connection. Using your dad's old Gateway GP6-400 on dial-up is probably not the best idea. Also, I don't recommend using mobile devices unless you have no other option.
Try a mock draft if you've never done an auction draft before. While you probably won't get an accurate picture of player values, you'll get a good feel for how the interface and process works.
Help move things along when possible. Nominating Christian McCaffrey at $1 isn't against the rules. But, nominating him at $15 or $25 when you know he's going to go for far more than that is better.
Ask questions. While I'd much prefer to not be bothered, I'd rather address issues before they happen. If you have a question or problem, let me know.
If you follow the advice above and plan ahead, you should have a good time in the draft. For some of you, it might even be the highlight of your season.
Best of luck!
