Change Is In The Air

After a lot of careful review and input from owners around the league, I've decided to make a few changes for next season. I don't often make changes without offering a vote to the entire league, but I think you'll agree that these changes are going to benefit everyone that plays in this league.

Below is a handy-dandy little list of some changes we're making for 2022...

Revamped Consolation Playoff

The current Consolation Ladder that ESPN uses will be replaced by an actual bracket with the same format as the Winner's Bracket. The top 2 teams that miss the playoffs will receive a 1st round bye and we'll have an actual playoff to determine the best of the worst. The only difference is that this will be an open format - divisions do not matter. I should note that this will be done manually by yours truly because ESPN doesn't offer the setting, but I hope we all agree that a bracket is better than a ladder.

Introducing A New Game

We're going to add ESPN's Eliminator Challenge to our league. This is your typical suicide/knock-out pool that I'm sure you're all familiar with. Each week you'll pick a different team to win and if they lose, you're out. No team can be selected more than once during the contest. What's that you ask? Oh, of course there's a prize for winning!

Golden Ticket Is Back

For those who spoke up, I heard you...you didn't like playing against me and that's understandable. We're going to end the Defeat The Commish challenge and bring back the Golden Ticket challenge.

New Champion Benefit

In addition to all of that sweet prize money and fame, the team that wins 1st place will be allowed to choose the team name and logo for the team that finishes in last place in the Consolation Playoff. The last place team will proudly wear this shroud of shame for the entire season. This bonus benefit will be available beginning with the 2022 champion. And, please...there are women and children watching, so no XXX material.

Revised High Score Prizes

We will be changing the Highest Single Week Score and Highest Single Week Score In A Loss from season-long prizes to weekly prizes. Each week, the team with the highest score and the team with the highest score in a loss will win some prize money. Additionally, we'll also be adding a prize each week for the team with the lowest score in a victory.

Free Agent Revenue Distribution

When we moved to the cash model for free agents, I honestly had no idea how much all of you were willing to spend. As of this writing, we have collected almost $680 - an incredible amount. I don't anticipate we'll see quite the same level of spending in the future, but I also recognize it's much higher than I anticipated. Hence, we're going to alter the distribution of these funds. Instead of 100% of the money going to 1st place, we'll distribute 60% to 1st place, 30% to 2nd place, and 10% to 3rd place. We'll spread the love a little and teams that finish at the top will still enjoy a very nice payout.

New Prize Schedule

Beginning with the 2022 season, our prize schedule will change to the following:

1st Place: $800 + 60% of FA revenue

2nd Place: $500 + 30% of FA revenue

3rd Place: $250 + 10% of FA revenue

Consolation Champion: $100

Highest Score (Win): $15 per week

Highest Score (Loss): $10 per week

Lowest Score (Win): $10 per week

Survivor Challenge: $150

Eliminator Challenge: $150

Pigskin Pick'Em: $150

Golden Ticket: $150

Based on this year's FA revenue, that would be about $1200 for 1st, $700 for 2nd, and $320 for 3rd place...a pretty good haul in addition to the other prizes, if you ask me.

League Fee Increase

I saved the best part for last. You didn't think we could add all of that goodness without extra revenue, did you? Starting with the 2022 season, the league fee will be $250. But, if you consider the changes & additions listed above, I think you'll agree that there are far more opportunities for you to win some prize money.

If there is anything on this list that you strongly disagree with, please feel free to let me know. I'm always eager to listen to and consider input from everyone. And though I can't think of a time where it's ever happened, I certainly don't want to get anything wrong.
