Down And Out

Updated: Nov 17, 2022

Well, it finally happened: they lost. After all that winning, a number of people - myself included - were beginning to wonder if it would happen or not. I mean, just look at that team...they're stacked with talent.

Yes, folks, The Real Slim Brady fell short and lost this week.

What? Oh, you thought I was talking about the Eagles? Pfffft. Everyone knew they were going to lose eventually. It was just a matter of time. They'll be fine.

Like the Eagles, I'm sure Slim Brady will be fine in the long run. Although they lost this week, they scored 102 points which is significant because they're still the only team across both leagues that hasn't scored below 100 points this season. When you consistently produce at that level, you're going to win a lot more than you're going to lose.

And they're going to need to keep winning with TJONES35 now tied with them for the divisional lead. All-Caps-All-Day looks like they're going to make a serious run for that coveted #1 seed now that they have Jonathan Taylor back from injury.

Taylor produced 147 yds and a TD for Chief Sticky Balls and TJONES35 in his return from injury.

As long as we're talking about Segundo teams that are doing well, we can't forget about Chubby Chase. Their roster was already solid with Geno Smith under Center and adding Justin Fields looks like icing on the cake. Though they're tied for the division lead with Jalenhouse Rock, Chase certainly looks like the favorite to me.

Over on the Sagebrush Cactus side, Jergoff Passout appears to be in the best position to claim a #1 seed. With a two-game lead in the Sagebrush division, and only four weeks left, it's entirely possible for them to secure it next week, if all goes right.

The Cactus division is a little murkier.

The Thundabuddies currently lead the division but, after losing this week, they're clinging to a one-game lead and there are several teams lying in wait.

The teams looking to dethrone Thundabuddies? Who Is You, Baby Got Dak, and Los Perros Locos are all playing extremely well right now, leaving no room for Thundabuddies to slip up. Who Is You has won three straight, Baby Got Dak has won four straight, and the Perros have won their last five games.

But that's enough positivity for one day...let's focus on those that are down and/or out.

In the process of writing the article, it's been confirmed that Cooper Kupp will be out for some time...possibly even the remainder of the season. This injury looms large for the aforementioned Thundabuddies as they're going to need all the help they can get to stave off the competition.

Uh, oh.

But another area where this injury could have significant consequences is in the Golden Ticket Challenge where a large number of teams have him on their roster.

When you consider the fact that the top 10 teams in the contest all feature Kupp, it's not likely his absence will affect the order to much. However, since we still have seven weeks left in the contest, teams that once looked done may now have a very small window of opportunity.

If we're talking about teams that are "down", we're talking about Pork Chop Express and Badazz Bri. Both teams are on the cusp of being eliminated from playoff contention if they lose another game this season. And even if they win out, there's still no guarantee they'll be safe without a lot of other cards falling in their favor.

The good news for Shiva Kaminis, My Chubb's Hardman and Najee Germany is that they're no longer in the "down" category. The bad news is that they've been moved to the "out" category, as in "out of the playoffs".

All three teams are too far back in their respective divisions and there is no mathematical possibility left for them to make the playoffs.

While being eliminated from the playoffs is a downer, the upside is that they now get to play the role of spoiler over the remaining four weeks. If you're in the Segundo league and you see one of these teams on your upcoming schedule, look out...misery loves company.

GOLDEN TICKET CHALLENGE

Didn't I tell you? One significant injury can change the entire outlook of this contest. While it came late in the season, the injury to Kupp looks like it might still have the potential to upset the apple cart.

The injuries on the Golden Tate Warriors ticket are beginning to pile up. Missing Cooper Kupp, Ja'Marr Chase and Breece Hall have cost the Warriors dearly. Another big week for Thundabuddies has catapulted them into the lead by 44 points. Trailing by 53 points are the Pork Chop Express with the Tallaassee Tator Tots just over 100 points behind the lead.

SURVIVOR CHALLENGE

With the elimination of Golden Tate Warriors and Shiva Kaminis this week, we're now down to our final two competitors in each league. Pork Chop Express will take on Thundabuddies and The Real Slim Brady will battle TJONES35 in a best-of-three series to determine our Survivor Challenge champion.

PIGSKIN PICK'EM CHALLENGE

Though the Golden Tate Warriors still hold their lead in this contest, the field certainly became more crowded this week. The Thundabuddies and Badazz Bri each gained on our leader and now only trail by one game. We're on to Cleveland! had a rough week and missed an opportunity to tighten the race while the Ohio State Gunkeyes and Who Is You each finished with nine correct picks putting them back into consideration.

WEEKLY SCORE WINNERS

Highest Score: Baby Got Dak (120 pts) and Chubby Chase (147 pts)

Highest Score - Loss: Thundabuddies (105 pts) and My Chubb's Hardman (108 pts)

Lowest Score - Win: Chief Sticky Balls (87 pts) and Jalenhouse Rock (88 pts)

COMMISH'S PICKS

I see what you did there. I boasted last week about my recent success in making picks and you all decided to throw my off this week and leave me with a 3-3 record in Sagebrush Cactus and a 2-4 record in SCL. Well played.

Good luck in week 11!
