Déjà Vu All Over Again

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

Sometimes it seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Like we're living the same week over and over again. For example, take Badazz Bri who must feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog's Day.

I'm speaking, of course, of the fact that they scored 106 points - their highest score of the season - for the 3rd time.

But there's more.

Yes, folks, Badazz Bri surrendered 200 points. At home. To Christian McMingle. Again.

Another week, another record-setting performance for Christian McMingle against Badazz Bri.

Getting blown out is nothing new for Badazz Bri. They've been here before.

Among the 5 highest weekly scores of all-time, 4 of them have come against Bri. And, of the 4 games where teams have topped the 200-point threshold - an unthinkable feat just 2 years ago - Bri was on the other side of the ball in 3 of them. It's getting to the point where anything less than 200 points against Bri could almost be considered a "down" week.

I guess that's one way to get your name cemented into the SCL record books.

The fact that the 200-point threshold has only been reached four times makes it an Everest-like feat. Those that have realized that achievement are on an exclusive, and short, list. Blue Ribbon and Thunda Buddies are both in that group. But, Christian McMingle is in a category all to themselves having reached that summit twice.

Well done.

This week also provided a much clearer picture of the playoffs.

In the Cactus division, Who Is You won locking them into the #3 seed while Pork Chop Express and Thunda Buddies finished as the 1 and 2-seeds, respectively. With the playoff bracket already decided in the Cactus division, there's not much these 3 teams are playing for this week beyond bragging rights. I expect we'll see them rest some of their starters.

However, things are much more exciting over in the Sagebrush division.

Coming off their stellar performance this week, Christian McMingle currently holds the #1 seed. Right behind them, though, is Chief Sticky Balls at 8-4. To hang onto the #1 seed, and the 1st round bye that comes with it, McMingle will need to knock off Blue Ribbon this week. If they don't, Sticky Balls could seize the opportunity to repeat as the #1 seed by defeating Badazz Bri and outscoring McMingle by at least 21 points.

Battling for the third, and final, playoff spot in the Sagebrush division is Blue Ribbon and Golden Tate Warriors. For Blue Ribbon, the recipe is simple - win and they're in. For Golden Tate to make the playoffs, they'll not only need to beat Flash Dem TD's, but they'll also need Sticky Balls to defeat Badazz Bri.

Essentially, unlike the meaningless matchups in the Cactus division, each game in the Sagebrush division has playoff implications.

And finally, in another instance of their prayers being answered, Christian McMingle defeated Blue Ribbon in the Survivor Challenge. And it wasn't even close. After a close finish in round 1, McMingle held a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-three series. However, their record-setting week 12 - see above - put the exclamation point on their Survivor Challenge victory.

Again, well done.

A 4-2 week isn't something to be disappointed about, but it's not exactly something to brag about either. Regardless, I'm looking pretty good with a 45-21 record on the season.

McMingle can count their good fortunes that my Waiver Wire Team That Beat You was on bye this week. I'm certain they would've scored at least 206 points.

Good luck in week 13!
