Round one is done and, if I'm being honest, there was little to get excited about.
Before the week began, both playoff games looked like they were going to be high-scoring competitive battles. These are, after all, the playoffs.
Instead, what we were treated to was a 53-point blowout and the lowest scoring contest of the week.
On the Sagebrush side of the bracket, Chief Sticky Balls made small work of Blue Ribbon on the back of another solid outing from Derrick Henry. In fact, this was the largest margin of victory for any team this week.
And while the Cactus playoff game provided a closer finish, the scoring was nowhere near the level we all expected. The pre-game projections led us to believe this would be a shootout, finishing with an over/under around the 230-point range. But after only 162 points, this game was over. Of the pre-game player projections, only 6 of 18 players met or exceeded their projection.
With this week's victors moving on to the next round, we should see some good games this week. At least I hope we'll seem some better games.
The Balls will take on a McMingle team that would've been the highest scoring team in the league this week, had they played. And Who Is You will have their hands full with the Chops who would've been the second highest scoring team this week had they played. There's no doubt that both teams will be underdogs going in and they'll need to step up their game this week if they're to have any hopes of knocking off the #1 seeds.
Only 17 points separate the top two teams in this contest, Baby Got Dak and Who Is You. With only 2 weeks remaining in this contest, it looks like it will come down to the performance of a few players. For Dak to hang onto the lead, they'll need to see some solid scoring from Dalvin Cook, Gronk, DeAndre Hopkins, the Bills D/ST, and Rodrigo Blankenship. For Who Is You, they'll need Derrick Henry, Kittle, Cam Akers, the Steeler D/ST, and Tucker to put up or shut up.
But within reach of either of these two is Golden Tate Warriors. Sure, they're an outside shot sitting 71 points off the lead, but if they can get some superb production out of Deshaun Watson, Ezekiel Elliot, and Tyreek Hill, they might just be able to pull it off.
With 3 weeks remaining in this contest, it looks like Chief Sticky Balls could walk away with the prize. Provided they don't blow it and forget to submit their picks.
My worst week of the season. Only 1 correct pick in 5 games. Let's all agree that we won't speak of this.
My Waiver Wire Team looked great this week with 179 points. Just goes to show that there is still plenty of free agent fodder out there if you need it.
I should also add that this will likely be the last season for my Waiver Wire Team That Beat You. It's time for this contest to move on. I know you're heartbroken, but just relax. I have something much better in the works to replace it...stay tuned.
Good luck in round 2!
