I'm sorry. I can't hear you over the sound of the freight train that's headed in your direction. Just be sure you're not standing on the tracks when it arrives.
It's no secret that this league has become the stuff of legend in some circles and many have expressed interest in becoming a part of it through the years. I don't like to brag, but clearly the first-rate wisdom shared in these blog posts along with my masterful management of your shenanigans has people talking.
In a normal fantasy football league, adding new members wouldn't be a problem. Owners that fail year after year to field anything remotely close to a respectable team would eventually come to the realization that this just isn't their game. And, as collect their things and head toward the door, new membership opportunities arise.
But not you guys.
Nope. Nothing, not even statistical facts, could ever convince this crowd of their inadequacies. Your steadfast commitment to indignity is unprecedented.
So, instead of waiting for owners to finally drop out of the league, we opted to start an entirely new one. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Sagebrush Cactus Segundo.
This new league will play by all of the same rules as the Sagebrush Cactus League; same scoring system, auction draft, keeper rules, and so on. However, the entry fee is lower and so are the league-specific prizes like first through third place, Survivor Challenge, and weekly scoring prizes.
For those of you in the Sagebrush Cactus League, I hear you: "Commish, what's in it for us?"
Glad you asked.
The two leagues will share in three of our contests: Golden Ticket Challenge, Pigskin Pick'Em Contest, and Eliminator Challenge. Of course, now that there are 24 owners competing in these contests instead of 12, it's only natural that the prizes should be increased too. And they have been...to $250 for the winner of each.
For a complete list of prizes, see the Prizes & Payouts section of the Rules & Info page.
To make things more interesting, SCL Segundo won't just be a standalone sister league. No. They will interact with our league in another way that should scare some of you.
At the conclusion of each season, the top two teams from SCL Segundo will be promoted to the Sagebrush Cactus League! Isn't that great?!
"But, Commish, won't SCL become crowded if we keep adding new members each year?"
No, because two of you will be relegated to SCL Segundo. That's right, the bottom two teams from Sagebrush Cactus will trade places with the top two from SCL Segundo. Isn't that great?!
Now before you go getting worked up, you should know that avoiding relegation is easy. Simply do what most of you don't on a regular basis: win.
And with that, I'd like to close out this post with a warm welcome to all of our new Sagebrush Cactus family members. I hope you enjoy this league and, please, try not to disappoint me.
Best of luck to all this season!
-- Commish
