One And Done

Hopefully your first week of action went well and you won your first game. Obviously I'm only speaking to the six of you that got off to a good start. The rest of you need to get your teams into shape because league history is not on your side.

Looking to add a league-leader in scoring? Contact Bounty Hunters or RamRod. They have some they're not using.

I know you're probably thinking: "Seriously, Commish?!? It's only the first week. There's still plenty of season left." And, you might be right. Except you're probably not.

In the 14-year history of the Sagebrush Cactus League only two teams began the season on a loss and still won the Championship game. This does not necessarily mean that you're out of the running for the other prizes. In fact, I have no idea what your odds are. Didn't bother to look it up. But, if you take the time, please let the rest of the league know so they don't bother me.

A huge 1st week and an injury to Tyreek Hill makes Sammy Watkins looks like a bargain at $8.

Speaking of "One and done", there were a few injuries to some big name players in week 1 that could affect several teams. Tyreek Hill and Joe Mixon were two that stuck out to me, with the former being a bit more worrisome. Hill was kept in the draft by Baby Got Dak for $44. There are not many feelings worse than seeing your high-dollar keeper go down in week 1. On the flipside, they still have some firepower on the bench to fill in if necessary. I haven't seen too many owners handcuff their WR's, but it looks like Dak knew what they were doing in grabbing Sammy Watkins.

While we're on the topic of bench players, I would just like to take a moment to remind Team RamRod that your bench doesn't count for anything in your matchup. They should probably get that talent in the game. They might even accidentally win.

Under the category of "Didn't See That Coming", Hit Em With The Hein!!! pulled out a big win to start the season against their nemesis, Badazz Bri. I'm not sure which is more impressive; Hein's 137 points or Bri's pitiful 88 points. Hein now owns bragging rights for the season. Then again, trash talking is not near as fun when your target doesn't even have internet access.

One final league note regarding the Thundabuddies and Pork Chop Express game. For some reason, ESPN turned off the QB-points tie-breaker we've used every year. By the time I caught this settings change, the tie had already been issued. The setting has been corrected and the game has been adjusted to remove the tie.

Perhaps I'm a little rusty after taking last season off. However, I will say that I called the MOTW prediction perfectly. Yes, perfectly. I predicted that Blue Ribbon would fall if Mason Crosby had a big game on Thursday. Sure enough, he posted a whopping 4 points.

Good luck in week 2!
