Setting The Table

Thanksgiving is just around the corner which means that we're nearing the end of the regular season and the playoff table is being set. And, just like a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, there are plenty of options available to go along with the mainstays.

But before we get down to business, it's important to take a minute and recognize the Sagebrush division for winning the inter-league contest this year. They finished 4 games better than their Cactus counterparts and own all of the bragging rights that that affords. Congrats.

And, speaking of the Sagebrush division, the final two teams in the Survivor Challenge, Christian McMingle and Blue Ribbon, squared off in round 1 of the best-of-three series. The first round went to McMingle, but not by much - 116 to 106. The player projections for round two suggest this contest could go down to the wire, provided you discount McMingle's illegal use of a QB in the TE slot. Yes, McMingle, we can all see what you're trying to do.

Taysom Hill's unprecedented lineup option gave McMingle the points needed to win the 1st round of the Survivor.

With Thanksgiving this week, I thought I'd compare and contrast the playoff possibilities of the teams in our league to the various dishes we'll all be enjoying on Thursday.

Roasted Roots & Vegetables

Let's face it, no one gets excited about Brussels sprouts, turnips or beets and there are a few teams that fall into this category. Having already been eliminated from the playoffs, it looks like everyone will be taking a hard pass on Baby Got Dak and NH Bounty Hunters this year. It's probably best to just wrap them up in foil and put them in the garage freezer for next year before they ruin someone else's Thanksgiving dinner.

Badazz Bri wishes they were a "turkey", but they're really just "mashed potatoes".

Gravy

Sure, it's good. It's delicious, even - it's gravy. But gravy is a side dish you'd never eat by itself. You need other foods to go with it: stuffing, potatoes, or turkey and this is the case for Flash Dem TD's. Though they're not technically eliminated from the playoffs, they're going to need some serious help from all of the other ingredients combined - just like gravy.

Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are great and they're on almost every Thanksgiving dinner table. But, they typically need something else to go with. Four teams fit the profile of mashed potatoes this week: Who Is You, Los Perros Locos, Blue Ribbon, and Badazz Bri. Some of the teams from this group are likely to make it, but probably not all, and they'll need some help from the gravy, stuffing, and turkey.

Stuffing

Everyone has a different recipe for stuffing. There are so many different options to choose from and each one is pretty good with or without other menu items. Do you add cranberries or apples to sweeten it up? Should you mix in some bacon because, really, what dish isn't improved by adding bacon? How about giving it a southwest flair with some tortilla chips and chorizo? Options galore is the story for Chief Sticky Balls and, to a lesser degree, Golden Tate Warriors. No matter the recipe, chances are pretty good that they'll been on the table.

Turkey

Ah, the main course. There can be no Thanksgiving dinner without turkey, and there can be no Sagebrush Cactus playoff without Christian McMingle, Pork Chop Express, and Thunda Buddies. Just like that tasty bird, they're guaranteed to be on the menu.

In closing, I would like to take a minute to thank all of you for playing in this league and contributing to the fun. This has been a great group of owners for several years now each season has been more fun than the last. I hope each of you find yourselves surrounded by family and friends while you enjoy some good food and football this Thanksgiving.

Had it not been for the shenanigans of Christian McMingle, I would've had another 6-0 week.

Congrats to Pork Chop Express, the only team that topped my Waiver Wire team this week.

Good luck in week 12!
