Something In The Water

It's the only explanation I can come up with.

Throughout the first 14 years of this league, we saw several outstanding performances that earned their owners a spot on the All-time Highest Score list. A handful of teams scored more than 180 points in a single game, and we even had a pair of teams, STL Ironhorse (191 points in 2011) and Thundabuddies (199 points in 2015), come close to the elusive 200-point threshold. Impressive to say the least.

But, something has happened over the past two seasons.

In the last two years we've see 3 teams score 200 points or more and, this week, Blue Ribbon added a 190-point game to the list. In case you haven't been following along, that means that 4 of the top 6 highest scores in league history have come in the past two season - the last season-and-a-half, really. We still have 6 weeks remaining in this season.

In addition to earning a 2nd spot on the All-time Highest Score list this week, Blue Ribbon also earned the final immunity in the Survivor Challenge. Well played.

Davante Adams and Co. led Blue Ribbon to a huge week 7 win.

With Ribbon's big showing this week, it's easy to overlook another solid outing from Thunda Buddies. At 6-1, Thunda Buddies showed no signs of slowing down on their way to a 140-point game and another victory to hold onto 1st place in the Cactus division. What's more impressive is that they posted a quality score with 2 players in their lineup that scored 0 points.

It wasn't pretty, but Robby Anderson's 8 points was just enough for Bounty Hunters to upset McMingle.

Perhaps the biggest victory this week came out of one of the biggest mismatches. Every available data point, insight, and analysis seemed to cement the case that NH Bounty Hunters stood absolutely no chance at beating Christian McMingle. So, naturally, they did.

Though it was likely the greatest upset this season, McMingle still managed to hold onto 1st place in the Sagebrush division thanks to poor showings from Golden Tate Warriors and Chief Sticky Balls. In another piece of good fortune for McMingle, their 79-point performance allowed them to remain in the Survivor Challenge with Los Perros Locos mustering only 62 points.

Los Perros should've taken a cue from Belichick and put Cam on their bench.

And finally, I should remind you all about the importance of winning in week 8. Wait, what's that? You don't know what I'm talking about?

In the history of the league, there has never been a champion that lost their week 8 matchup. Yep, 15 seasons and every team that won the Championship Game also won in week 8. Don't believe me? Go check it out for yourself.

Obviously, this doesn't mean that if you win in week 8 you will win the championship. However, it does mean that if you lose, you are guaranteed to finish no better than runner-up.

After taking last week off, I finished this week at 3-3. But worry not, I feel a 6-0 week coming up soon.

Kudos to Blue Ribbon who beat my Waiver Wire team this week by 4 points.

Good luck in week 8!
