It was a long journey, but we made it. Finally.
There were moments where I had my doubts that we would get here. But, we came together, forged ahead and pushed through every challenged that we were faced with. We didn't let obstacles deter us or force us to change our course.
Yes, Mrs. Commish, myself, and our two interns made it to Princeville on the island of Kaua'i.
Seriously, though...traveling with young interns is tough and they tend to get unruly (and bitchy) when cooped up in planes, trains and automobiles for almost 9 hours.
And that is why this post is coming later than usual - Hawai'i is about 72 hours behind the mainland, I think.
Let's talk about the other journey that just concluded: the Sagebrush Cactus regular season.
If you felt like the end of the regular season came with a little bit of a thud, you're right. This was the lowest scoring week of the season, with only 1088 points across the league. The previous lowest week was in week 7 with 1125 points scored. It was also the week with the fewest teams scoring over 100 points; three. Furthermore, the highest scoring team this week, Bounty Hunters (132 pts), is the lowest scoring team this season.
But, fewer points doesn't necessarily mean less excitement.
The #1 seed in the Cactus division was, literally, decided by a single point. Pork Chop Express was able to overtake Who Is You during the Monday Night game and claim the first-round bye, setting up another re-match of Who Is You versus Los Perros Locos.
Speaking of Los Perros Locos, they'll head into the playoffs coming off a 1-point loss that ended their winning streak at 5 games.
In the Sagebrush division, Hit Em With The Hein!!! and Flash Dem TD's left nothing to chance in making sure they earned their invitations to the playoffs. With those two winning their matchups convincingly, there was no avenue left for RamRod to take. However, RamRod still kept things close, just in case, losing 75-71 to Sticky Balls. Had Hein!!! or TD's lost, I have no doubts in my mind that RamRod would've started the Rams D/ST to secure the win.
I suppose I should congratulate Hein!!! in avoiding the embarrassment of becoming the first team in history to miss the playoffs after starting 6-0.
This regular season has certainly been one of the more interesting in league history and I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys decide to do in the playoffs.
Well, at least I didn't close out the regular season on a loss. I finished week 13 with a 3-3 record to leave me with a 48-30 season in my Commish's Picks. Not too shabby.
I had a 200-point team of my own this week.
Good luck in the playoffs!
