Week 13 Commish's Picks

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving sharing good food and stories with family and friends. I would also like to thank all of you for sticking around this league after my unexpected absence last season. I know last year wasn't what we've come to expect from this league, but I've been determined to go above and beyond this season as a token of my appreciation for your patience and understanding. This has been a good group of team owners over the past several years and I've enjoyed each and every season with you.

With that said, this week's Commish's Picks feature abbreviated write-ups due to the holiday and short week.

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks again for playing!

PS - Mrs. Commish made me write all those nice things above. I believe you all know me better than that by now.

LINE: Thundabuddies -21

The Chowder Bowl, part 2. If you're anticipating a lot of scoring in this game, don't. Back in week 7, Thundabuddies beat the Hunters, 86-65, in the lowest scoring game of the week. And with nothing more than pride on the line in this contest, I don't expect we'll see much this time around either. Despite being a huge favorite, Thundabuddies have never won at Bounty Hunters. But if you look at recent trends, this might be their best opportunity. They're averaging 128.3 pts/gm over the past 3 weeks to Hunters' 88.7 pts/gm. Take Thundabuddies and pass the gravy.

COMMISH'S PICK: Thundabuddies

LINE: Los Perros Locos -39

The opportunity for Dak to play the role of spoiler in this contest was ruined when Los Perros Locos secured the #3 seed in the playoffs last week. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't enjoy sending them off with a loss and ending their 5-game winning streak. The problem is that Dak can't score lately and they'll have a difficult time keeping up with the top-scoring team in the league who is averaging 141.8 pts/gm over the past 5 weeks. Even if Dak decides to field a defense this week, I don't see them coming anywhere close to Perros.

COMMISH'S PICK: Los Perros Locos

LINE: Flash Dem TD's -22

This season has not been kind to Bri. However, as a parting gift, they'll have the opportunity to ruin someone else's: Flash Dem TD's. With a chance at a playoff berth on the line, I imagine TD's will come in prepared better than they did in week 7 when they lost to Bri, 107-80. All it takes is a quick look at TD's player matchups this week to assume they'll easily top that. Though I wouldn't count Bri out yet, I will say that they'll have a very difficult time carving up this contest.

COMMISH'S PICK: Flash Dem TD's

LINE: Blue Ribbon -16

From first to worst. Or, at least, that is what it probably feels like for Hein!!! lately. They're at risk of becoming the first team in history to begin 6-0 and miss the playoffs. To make matters worse, they're facing a Ribbon team that would probably love to share their misery. This year marks the first time in their team history that they will be watching the playoffs from home. The good news for Hein!!! is that Ribbon is hosting this game. This season, Hein!!! is 4-1 on the road whereas Ribbon is 1-4 at home. With Ribbon's inability to score lately, it would seem Hein!!! should have the advantage, but I have yet to see anything over the past 5 weeks to give me hope they'll save this season.

COMMISH'S PICK: Blue Ribbon

LINE: Team RamRod -7

More than any other game, this meeting will determine much of the playoff teams and seeding in the Sagebrush division. Earlier this season, Chief Sticky Balls got the better of RamRod, winning 105-81. But that was a different RamRod team than this one. That RamRod team was 2-5 and still trying to figure things out. This RamRod team has won 4 of their last 5 games while scoring less than 100 points only once in that span. There is one small thing to consider though - Chief Sticky Balls has outscored RamRod in 10 of 12 weeks this season.

COMMISH'S PICK: Chief Sticky Balls

LINE: Pork Chop Express -8

Earlier this season, Who Is You got the best of Pork Chops and ended their 4-game winning streak, and now they'll head to Chops Coliseum for a rematch. Of late, the Chops have been the better team. They've won their last 2 games and they're coming off their highest scoring week of the season, 154 points. However, Who Is You has had success traveling this year with a 4-1 record on the road. With bragging rights and a first-round bye on the line, I expect we'll see a high scoring, close game between these two. For my money, I'll take Pork Chop Express by a field goal.

COMMISH'S PICK: Pork Chop Express
