Week 5 Commish's Picks

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

Oddly, this will be Thundabuddies first visit to Who Is You. Throughout the years, Thundabuddies has always enjoyed the advantage of playing host and it shows. They're 6-3 all-time against Who Is You and average about 106 points to You's average of 95.22. However, they've split their last 4 matchups so I probably wouldn't count Who Is You out yet. I expect this matchup should be a pretty high scoring affair. The QB, RB and WR play should be good for both teams and I think this one comes down to D/ST. With Who Is You playing at home, I expect their defense will be pumped and ready to slow down Thundabuddies. Take Who Is You and give 4.5.

COMMISH'S PICK: Who Is You

Two teams moving in opposite directions square off against each other. Baby Got Dak is coming off a big win that no one (maybe not even themselves) expected they could pull off. On the other hand, Bounty Hunters are coming off a pair of tough losses after starting the season 2-0. These teams have split the two games they've played at Dak's house in the past with Bounty Hunters holding a slight advantage in scoring average, 114.5 to 110. But I would caution you in thinking this game might stay close. ESPN has Dak listed as the slight favorite, but something tells me Bounty Hunters are ready for another big week to get them back on track. I'm gonna take the Bounty Hunters to win by double-digits.

COMMISH'S PICK: NH Bounty Hunters

In one of those strange statistical anomalies, Hein!!! is 2-1 at home versus Sticky Balls while being outscored an average of 109.33 to 100.67. That should tell you that when Sticky Balls shows up, they bring it. However they're down a couple RB's due to bye and injury, and their star kicker just had his season cut short. Side note: who places a K on IR? Are you really going to keep him next season? Any-who, where was I? The good news is that Hein!!! has yet to impress this season and most of their players are facing some tough matchups this week. They did, however, just close a deal to get some extra help, but I think we'll need a few weeks to see that trade payoff. If you need proof that Chief Sticky Balls can upend Hein!!!'s unbeaten streak, consider the fact that Hein!!! has outscored the Balls only once this season. I don't expect that to change.

COMMISH'S PICK: Chief Sticky Balls

Los Perros Locos are officially on a win streak - 2 in a row to be exact. However, they'll need to step up their game to stand a chance against a Pork Chop's team that looks to be on a roll themselves. While Perros may be 6-2 when playing at Pork Chop's in the past, they've only outscored them once so far this season. Pork Chop Express is the 3rd highest scoring team this year and they're loaded with top-10 talent. If by some miracle, Perros players have some big games, they might be able to keep it close. But let's face it, if you're betting, do you really want to pin your money on hope? Take Pork Chop Express and give the points if you want to get paid out.

COMMISH'S PICK: Pork Chop Express

Historically, these two matchup well. They've split the 4 games they've played in the past and if you remove Blue Ribbon's record-breaking week 3 performance, they're not that far apart this year either. On paper, Ribbon has the better roster, but it seems you can't count on them to show up consistently. With 6 starters ranked in the top 10 at their position, you'd expect a better record than 2-2. Flash Dem TD's, on the other hand is very consistent this season. Consistently mediocre. And while that mediocrity has gotten them to 3-1, it's largely due to some favorable matchups in the scheduling department. I'm certain TD's will score somewhere in the 100 to 105 range. The big question is: Which Ribbon team will come to play: the week-3-200-point team or the week-4-88-point team?

COMMISH'S PICK: Blue Ribbon

I know what you're thinking: this seems like a pity-pick for the MOTW. But, hear me out first. OK, maybe it was a pity-pick, but c'mon - it's not like I'm going to have many opportunities to pick either of them in the future. The good news is that after this one is over, we'll only have one winless team in the league. This week, RamRod made a big trade deal with Hein!!! and they're going to need all that newly acquired talent to show up. In 7 games against Badazz Bri, they've never won. Never. They're 0-7. Worse, when they visit Bri, they're outscored an average of 130 to 82. The big question is whether or not RamRod can finally do what they haven't yet this season: score 100 points or more. Personally, I think they do. After all, everyone has a good week when playing Bri, right?

COMMISH'S PICK: Team RamRod
